LED Lighting Technology - A positive development towards affordability.
A new facility has been opened in Cambridge to research the development of a key component in the affordability of LED technology. Gallium Nitride LED's are already used in many of our more indirect lighting requirements - for example, traffic lights and computer screens, but they are too expensive to be used in general lighting for our homes or offices. The new Gallium Nitride growth reactor in Cambridge will support the research into making this expensive component as much as 50% cheaper, thereby bringing LED technology within both commercial and domestic budgets.
