60,000 sq ft in Cambridge, CSP

After 3 years at 140 Cambridge Science Park, DisplayLink were looking for design and project management services for their relocation to a brand new 60K sqft building at 220 CSP. The requirements were to build on our previous design while creating a more corporate space reflecting their business development. After workshopping the brief we developed the design to provide a natural warmer palette for a flexible office space supporting changing team sizes, collaboration and concentration. The ground floor provides a catered breakout facility as well as training and welfare spaces with the first and second floors of the building dedicated to office areas, meeting spaces, labs and workshops. Part of the ground floor has also been designed and fitted out as a self-contained sublet, ensuring space is used as efficiently as possible. We designed the space to RIBA Stage 3, with the successful tenderer providing the construction drawings as required, and we also maintained a watching brief through the construction to safeguard design intent.

The Workspace Consultants carried out extensive meetings with the Facilities Department and a number of teams at DisplayLink to determine our needs for the new space. Having outgrown our previous office, it was clear we needed to focus on increasing collaborative spaces and creating a less stark aesthetic. Our needs for a flexible space, with adaptable meeting rooms, training spaces and external facing areas were identified as project priorities.

The design of the new workspace has incorporated warm and neutral colours, comfortable soft furnishings and plants. The high end furniture additions such as electric sit-stand desks were a fantastic upgrade, which The Workspace Consultants were able to source through a comprehensive furniture package. Additions such as the Library space and servery have been integral to maintaining and developing the existing culture at the company.

Employees commented that the look and feel of the space has contributed to a more productive and pleasurable working environment. DisplayLink are now able to host external events with the wider technology community in Cambridge, which has expanded our network and status both on the Science Park and beyond. Staff appreciate the modern facilities and the design has contributed to a successful recruitment drive.

The expansion of collaboration space has allowed teams to continue to develop agile working practice and have dedicated spaces for each product group. Our Boardroom facilitates larger internal and external meetings, providing a professional and comfortable space to connect with stakeholders.

Our timescale for the fit out project was just 12 weeks, but any changing needs or additions were dealt with efficiency and confidence to deliver on time. We enjoyed working with Gary, Carol and the team, and have received nothing but positive comments on the space so far.
